What is the difference between a turtle and a tortoise? Well a tortoise is a slow moving land or fresh water reptile encased in a scaly or leathery dome with retractable elephantine legs. A turtle is encased in bony plates and has flippers or webbed toes for swimming. I bet you are now glad I cleared that up.
